Bag design to be desiredJan 20, 2010 For the price, this bag is not bad. You have plenty of room to add other small items. My only problem with this product is the water bags are held in pockets outside the bad. If one was actually carrying this bag around, the water bags can easily fall out. I just find it to be strange design.

Good basic kitNov 19, 2009 What you see is what you get.
A good basic kit. No frills but a good starting point
At this price it makes a great present fo people that are hard to buy for.
There is room in the pack to add a few small items such as matches, a couple of mylar sheets, a multi-tool and a few more things.

Life Gear LGLE01 Life Essentials Survival KitNov 12, 2009 The tote is just big enough to carry the food, water, and blanket. There is a detachable shoulder strap that comes with it. The main compartment can be zippered closed and is used to hold the food and blanket. There are 3 pockets near the top of the main compartment that can be used to hold extra blankets or unused/unfinished food bars. The outer face has six discreet pockets for holding the water packets. The tote has some pretty rugged construction and can be easily used again for other things like holding tools or medical supplies after the food and water are all gone.
The food is a 6" X 5.5" X 1.25" slab that is sub divided into 9 bars that are approximately 2" X 1.83" X 1.25" each. 400 calories per bar. 3,600 calories total. Tastes like semi-sweet angel food cake made ultra-dense and crumbly like a big thick cookie. The fine sugar granules give it a slight sand-like grittiness as you chew. After eating one of these, I can almost guarantee that you'll want to wait several hours before attempting another one. It's not that they're bad tasting, it's just that they don't inspire mass consumption the way "real" food does. They say it is non-thirst provoking, but I would say it is minimally thirst provoking. After eating one of these bars, I was looking forward to a few sips of water to wash it down. The main ingredients in order are enriched flour, vitamins and minerals, vegetable shortening, and granulated sugar. 5-year shelf life, but once you open the package, you'll have to eat it all or let the rest go to waste because all the food becomes exposed to air and there is no way to re-seal it other than to put it back in the tote and zipper it closed.
The water comes in six separate 4.225 oz. sealed metalized pouches. The pouch says the water comes from "Oxnard Municipal Water Source" whatever that is, tap water probably. The taste is fairly clean with a bit of plastic flavoring and a hint of WD-40.
The blanket comes highly folded and sealed in a small zip-lock baggie. It is the space age type of mylar that is very thin, but very warm and highly reflective. If you put your head under the blanket you can still see through it kinda like silver reflective sunglasses. Dimensions are about 59" X 82".
Good starter bagApr 08, 2009 I gave this as a gift to my mom, who really didn't have any kind of emergency kit. She lives in a retirement apartment building and I felt more comfortable knowing she had "something". with the price, I may buy a few more to add to Christmas gifts this year. The bag has some extra room, so you can easily add things like a tooth brush and tooth paste, a bar of soap, and other things you may want in an emergency situation to help you feel more "normal".

As Promised!Feb 17, 2009 I purchased this product along with the LifeLight and Wings of Life Backpack. Although I use the other two products on the go, I keep this product in my apartment in case of an emergency. The pack contained everything as advertised (blanket, water, food). I have always felt that it's important to be prepared for emergencies, and this kit does just that for a very low cost.
