Not good for kayakingSep 13, 2009 I do a lot of kayaking white water and ocean. I bought this in hopes of communicating while kayaking on the sound in NC and for fishing trips I take with my friends. It says its splash proof but I have found if they get water on the speaker or the mic it might as well not work because either you or the other people aren't going to be able to hear what is being said. So yes it still works after being splashed but I had the volume all the way up and had to hold my ear on it to hear it. We did manage to have one fall in the water once it dry out completely it worked ok but took a few days. Oh and if you get it to work more than a mile away you have done good. Like I said we used it on the sound in NC and it would would work up to 2 miles but that was with nothing to block the radio waves not sure where they used it and got it to work anywhere near 30 miles.
Good valueAug 20, 2009 I bought these so my Scout Troop could do their Adventurer level hike and Leaders could be nearby without interfering. Mountainous area, great reception. I'm in Australia so can't comment on USA weather alert features. Good value for the price and already has all the headsets so I didn't have to purchase separately.

2 way radiosAug 19, 2009 We haven't use them much yet but when we have they did very well. We use them when we ride our ATV's so we can keep in touch. The only thing we didn't care for was the head set. It was hard to keep on and was very uncomfortable.
Radio midlandJul 19, 2009 The radio is very good for fielder but in the city is very bad don't work .

PPG PilotJul 07, 2009 Me & a fellow pilot purchased this to communicate between us when we fly and so far it has been great. Clear and understandable. Have talked to each other about 18 miles apart at 900' so far. The various channels and sub channels aren't explained very well in the manual. So we have been learning as we go. For the most part we like the radio as we use it during flight operations mainly, which is mostly line of sight...
